Per the Irish News , the Football Association of Ireland have today moved to delete a ticketing page asking Irish supporters in the North to register as 'non-Irish'.
The page in question is a section on the FAI website in which supporters register their interest in tickets for Irish qualifiers. When fans from this island clicked 'Ireland', however, there were only 26 counties included in the subsequent drop-down menu.
Therefore, Republic fans based in Northern Ireland had no option but to go back and change their address to the United Kingdom.
Republic of Ireland supporters based in the North have hit out at this part of the FAI's website, and the FAI have now taken action to have that ticketing page pulled, following the Irish News' raising of the issue with the Association.
As a result of this, the FAI have deleted the page, and there now exists a new link to the ticket portal for the game against Austria in Vienna on November 12.
The Irish News also carries a quote from Paul Loughran, a member of the West Belfast Ireland Supporters Club, who says that "I would very much welcome this and would praise the FAI for dealing with this matter so swiftly".
Of the Irish team that played in Moldova, two - Shane Duffy and James McClean - were born in Northern Ireland. Manager Martin O'Neill was also born in the North.
As fate would have it, earlier today we selected an XI of Republic of Ireland players who are from the North, which you can catch up with here. Oddly enough, there was no goalkeeper to select.
