FAI To Submit Euro 2020 Bid This Afternoon

At 12pm today the FAI will submit a bid to Uefa to become one of the 13 host cities for Euro 2020. If the bid succeeds then the Aviva will play host to four games during the tournament.

The stadium's 51,700 capacity means that Dublin could play host to three groups matches and a last-16 game, with a minimum capacity of 60,000 required to host quarter-finals and 70,000 for semi-finals and finals.

Around 30 countries are expected to bid for matches before the deadline this afternoon but there are a lot of positives about the prospect of our chances.

RTÉ report that the two terminals at Dublin Airport is a big plus, as is the great reputation of Irish fans. While we may not be a footballing superpower our ability to take off our shoes at any moments in honour of the 'boys in green' could end up paying dividends.
