All hope is not yet lost for Des Cahill.

Irish supporters who missed out on Euro 2016 the first time around have until Wednesday at midnight to appeal via the ticket portal on the FAI website.

The FAI released a statement on the matter this evening.

Applicants who received notifications from UEFA that they were unsuccessful and wish to be added to the official waiting list should forward their notification email from UEFA to [email protected] along with their FAI account number and details of the ticket they applied for.

The FAI has 2,000 tickets in reserve, which were distributed to UEFA by the participating national associations. These tickets will be used to satisfy the demand from supporters with a proven match attendance record, who have missed out on securing tickets through the UEFA portal.

We mention Des Cahill because he has, of course, the public face of Euro 2016 heartache, a condition which has afflicted many supporters in recent months, even those who went to Glasgow, Warsaw and Gibraltar.

This appeal which concludes Wednesday is the last stand.
