Earlier this month Steve Bruce suggested in a post-match interview that Curtis Davies was deserving of a place in the England squad for this summer's World Cup. When the broadcast cut back to the studio Roy Keane quipped that the Hull manager must have had a beer before giving the interview.
Keane's comments would seem unhelpful considering the Irish Examiner report that the FAI have put in motion a "charm offensive" in hope of getting the Hull centre back to play for Ireland. Though the Ireland assistant manager did also say that he consider Davies to be a very good player, just "not at that level".
The paper disclose that Irish players at Hull are eager to get the London-born Davies to switch his allegiance to the green jersey. Despite this, the Hull defender is said, by some close to him, to be somewhat hesitant about throwing his lot in with Ireland.
He apparently qualifies to play for Ireland through his grandparents and would certainly be a good alternative in defence considering the aging duo of Dunne and O'Shea is currently our best option.
