Republic of Ireland internationals Eunan O'Kane and Shane Duffy were involved in a car crash on their way to join up with Martin O'Neill's squad that are travelling to New York on Monday, the FAI have today confirmed.

Luckily, both men only suffered minor injuries and have reported to the team hotel where they will continue to New York with the rest of the squad.

The FAI confirmed that the two Derry men were involved in a collision on their way to Dublin in a statement on Twitter.

Believe me my heart missed a beat when Shane told me what happened.

Frightening stuff - as my Nicole says life is too short. We thank God he is ok. Back is sore and very shaken up but he is still on his way to Dublin. He will be fine. He is one tough ticket.

Jeep was a write off. He is a top lad and we are all behind him.

Ger Keville of the Independent also reports that it was a three-car collision, which it sounds like a scary experience but thankfully their injuries were not serious.

Ireland play Mexico in New York on Thursday.
