The internet has enjoyed a good old chuckle at Fabian Delph today, after he signed for Manchester City just six days after he claimed that his loyalty to Aston Villa was too strong for him to leave.

The deal was completed, and Delph was abused on social media for his U-Turn, but the player himself has spoken since his unveiling and attempted to clear the situation up. Unfortunately for Fabian, it doesn't really make sense at all:
Delph: "The decision to stay initially was purely based on the emotion and feelings that I hold for the club."

Delph: "Rather than looking at the football opportunity that had been placed in front of me."

So he didn't look at the footballing opportunity placed in front of him?
That means that Delph initially gave an immediate no to City because of his love for Aston Villa, but then he looked at the opportunity to battle for a place in midfield alongside Yaya Toure, Fernando, Fernandinho, and David Silva, and then thought that he fancied it?
Strange.
It remains to be seen how much game-time Delph will see at City next season, but he's made his decision and theres no going back now. Speaking of going back, it will be interesting to hear the reception he gets when he returns to Villa Park. If he plays, that is.
