Old school football pundits rejoice - the FA has given your game back. Or so it would seem with this decision to overturn Vincent Kompany's red card against Arsenal on Sunday.
From the FA website:
An Independent Regulatory Commission has today upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal regarding Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany.
The defender was dismissed for serious foul play during his side’s match against Arsenal on Sunday 13 January 2013.
As a result, Kompany’s three-match suspension has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
This was despite Kompany clearly leaving the ground with two feet in the air, studs showing and not in control the tackle on Jack Wilshere.
Sure, he got the ball and made minimal with Wilshere but that should be immaterial. Getting the ball does not excuse what could have come after the tackle. The fact that Jack Wilshere slips just moments before an imminent collision between the two saved Wilshere from possible serious injury and Kompany from making a leg breaking tackle.
It was a reckless tackle, saved by a moment of fortune from becoming a horror tackle.
The referee got the decision correct and how The FA could say anything different after watching replays is inexplicable.
