West Brom footballer Jay Rodriguez has been charged by the Football Association today after allegations he racially abused Brighton's Gaetan Bong in last month’s Premier League match.

During the game, an altercation occurred between the pair.  Rodriguez is alleged to have used “abusive and/or insulting words which included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race", per the FA.

The English striker has until 16 February 2018 to respond to the charge. He strongly denies any wrongdoing and his club, West Brom, have also announced that they would contest the charge.

The club's Director of Football Administration also made a statement.
