After the exit of Stephen Kenny, the FAI are under massive pressure to appoint right person to succeed him as Republic of Ireland manager.
Kenny did some excellent work in the role, blooding a number of young players and modernising the team's style of play. However, results were not good enough and that ultimately cost the former Dundalk boss his job.
Whoever replaces him will have to ensure they strike the right balance by continuing on the good work done by Kenny and his staff while also improving results on the pitch.
Lee Carsley is thought to the FAI's first choice at the minute, although the former Ireland midfielder is currently the England U21 manager and could be in the running to replace Gareth Southgate in the senior role next year.
The likes of Steve Bruce, Neil Lennon, and Roy Keane have also been linked.

Ex-Aston Villa striker warns Ireland about Roy Keane appointment
Roy Keane has plenty of experienced in the Ireland coaching setup, having spent five years as Martin O'Neill's assistant manager from 2013-2018.
However, there are plenty of reservations about the prospect of him taking up the top job at this point. He has not managed a team since 2011 and has been known to fall out with players in that past. The Cork man would also be considered to have quite a few shortcomings when it comes to the tactical side of the game.
One player who previously worked under him at club level believes that Ireland should steer well clear of the former Manchester United captain.
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor said that Roy Keane would not be a good fit as a manager in the modern game.
I don’t see him becoming Ireland manager.
When I was with him at Aston Villa, his style of management now, it wouldn’t work with the players of this day and age.
They wouldn't be able to handle it. He's too harsh on players so I don't think that would happen.
Players are different now to 15 or 20 years ago when they could handle the aggressive approach from a coach and a manager.
Roy Keane would be that manager.
While Gabriel Agbonlahor is someone whose opinions are regularly derided, this particular take is on that is shared by a large portion of Ireland supporters.
You get the sense that Roy Keane would not be a good fit for this team and the direction they are hoping to go in.
