With Giorgio Chiellini out injured for tonight's UEFA Champions League final between Juventus and Barcelona it deprives us of an interesting sideplot with what would have been his first meeting with Luis Suarez since the biting incident in the World Cup last year.
That doesn't mean that there won't be some interesting subplots with Suarez meeting Patrice Evra for the first time since both of them left the Premier League.
Evra has already promised that there will be no repeat of the non-handshake in the Manchester United Liverpool game after the allegations of racism levelled at Suarez; yet that's not the only bit of information he revealed about his feud with Suarez.
Evra maintains that Suarez is yet to apologise to him after he was found guilty of racially abusing Evra back in 2011. Suarez was banned for eight games and fined £40,000 before he later snubbed Evra's offer of a handshake in their next game in early 2012.
From the Irish Independent, Evra said:
I don't want his apologies. It doesn't matter, it's no problem for me. But when we are going to play the game, I will shake his hand. He will never be my best friend, but this is not a problem.
The past is the past. I am really proud of my colour and I will shake his hand like I did with Manchester when we play against Liverpool. My game is against Barcelona, it is not against Luis Suarez, but I will make sure he will feel me on the pitch.
It does sound like it'll be a fiesty affair between the two of them in probably the most important football match of the year.
