Banned Everton Fan Was "Too Concentrated On Screaming Abuse At The Players For Being Shit"

Everton's midweek defeat to Lyon was marred by a bout of fisticuffs between players that was further besmirched by the sight of an Everton fan rushing to the front of the stands to try and punch a Lyon player while holding his young son in his arm. Everton have since banned that fan from Goodison Park for life.

That fan has spoken to The Sunday People today, to apologise for his behaviour and offer a couple of explanations. He has admitted that he is "ashamed of what I’ve done. I already know. I’m not a fucking dickhead", admitting he put his son in a "dangerous position".

So while accepting that level of responsibility, the fan in question has made a couple of excuses for his actions, and partly blamed the Goodison stewarding and the Everton players' performance level. Saying that he got caught up in the moment, the fan added that "before I knew it I was through the gate, which should have been shut. Everton should have provided adequate security".

He went on to explain how he had got so caught up in the ugly incident:

I knew I’d put myself in that dangerous position. It was not intentional but I’d been too concentrated on screaming abuse at the players for being shit.

And before I knew it I was led down there – then it was like, ‘Fucking hell, what’s going on?’ and it looks the way it looks.
