When a young players emerges onto the scene, it is always important not to get carried away. Too much hype can certainly play a role in derailing a youngster's career, while it can often take quite some time before they are ready to consistently contribute at the top level.

In saying all of that, it is difficult not to fall into that trap with Evan Ferguson.

The Brighton striker looks like he is going to be a sensational player. Only 18-years old, he is already terrorising Premier League defences and has established himself as a key contributor in a very good team.

He possesses all of the traits needed to be a top forward in the modern game. He is an imposing physical presence, is deceptively quick, can link the play brilliantly, and has an eye for goal.

What more could you want?

All of those characteristics were on show during his goals in the FA Cup this afternoon.

Evan Ferguson scores magnificent FA Cup goals

Evan Ferguson was in the Brighton team once again for their FA Cup quarter-final against Grimsby Town this afternoon. You would have fancied him to score against League Two opposition, but the quality of his goal was top class regardless of the opposition.

In the 51st minute, the Irish teenager produced a glorious piece of skill to take the ball out of the air, before moving it away from his feet and finishing into the bottom corner. It was a sensational strike.

Unbelievable stuff.

Ferguson would actually find the net once again a couple of minutes later, although that effort was ruled due to an offside in the buildup.

His next effort did count.

While not as spectacular as the first, it was a well taken effort that required some good feet, a show of pace, and a clinical finish into the corner.

Top class.

In further good news for Ireland fans, he was substituted a few minutes later and should be in top condition for the international window getting underway next.

At this stage, he has to start against France.
