Evan Ferguson, Ireland's brightest prospect, once again squashed rumours of switching his allegiance from Ireland to England. He was speaking at a star-studded Champions League Final Preview fan event hosted by LiveScore, at The Camden in Dublin on Tuesday evening.

Conor McNamara, who was the host of the event asked Ferguson if he was 'tempted' to make the switch over to England following the attraction he has gained in the football world due to his breakout season with Brighton.

The Irish international was quick to reply with ''I'd have only one answer and it's no'' to McNamara's question but jokingly pointed to his mam in the crowd, who is from England and said:

''I think my mam in the crowd  would definitely have a different answer though''

Evan Ferguson's Breakout Season

Ferguson's club side Brighton enjoyed a fantastic 2022-23 Premier League campaign, despite losing their manager Graham Potter to Chelsea at the start of the season. The Seagulls despite losing Potter, continued their fine form, continuing to fly high in the top half of the league and qualifying for European football.

The Seagulls finished in the top six under their new manager Roberto De Zerbi and qualified for European football, for the first time in the club's history. It's an incredible journey for Brighton as they were playing in the third tier of England football as recently as 2011.

''It was a good end to the season we got European football. It was sort of my breakout season for me, so it's been a good season'' Ferguson said.

In his first top-flight campaign, Ferguson became an instrumental part of De Zerbi's Brighton side. Scoring ten goals in all competitions and netting six goals in the premier league, the most goals scored by any teenager in their debut top-flight season.

The Ireland striker admitted he even exceeded his own expectations for the season just gone.
