Chelsea first-team doctor Eva Carneiro, along with physio Jon Fearn came, in for criticism from Jose Mourinho at the weekend over what the Chelsea manager called a lack of understanding of the game.

The two entered the pitch to treat Eden Hazard, a move which temporarily reduced Chelsea to nine players on the pitch after Thibaut Courtois had been sent-off earlier in the game.

In a suspicious coincidence, it has been reported today that Carneio has been 'axed' from the Chelsea bench.

According to the Telegraph's Matt Law, Carneiro retains her position as Chelsea first-team doctor but will no longer attend games, training sessions or enter the team hotel.

Her duties will instead be carried out at the club's Cobham training ground.

After Chelsea's draw with Swansea on Saturday, Mourinho told Sky Sports:

I wasn't happy with my medical staff because even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game.

If you go to the pitch to assist a player, then you must be sure that a player has a serious problem. I was sure that Eden didn't have a serious problem. He had a knock and was very tired.

My medical department left me with eight fit outfield players in a counter attack after a set piece and we were worried we didn't have enough players left.

Carneiro yesterday posted on her Facebook page thanking people for their 'overwhelming support'.

I would like to thank the general public for their overwhelming support. Really very much appreciated.
