With the summer transfer window currently in full swing, Manchester United fans were probably hoping to have seen the club wrap up more transfer deals that they have done up to this point in the offseason.
It was clear that this would be a big window for the club, with reinforcements needed in a number of positions if they were to build on what was a promising debut campaign under Erik ten Hag. Mason Mount is the only signing confirmed up to this point, with a goalkeeper, striker, and centre back also sought before August's deadline.
Manchester United have been linked with countless players over the last few months, although it seems that there have been few concrete talks for potential targets. Some of that could be down to financial constraints.
The club have spent heavily in recent seasons, meaning they are under some pressure when it comes to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. As a result, they will have to sell some squad members in order to fund big money arrivals.
It seems the manager has a few potential sales in mind.
Erik ten Hag keen to sell four Manchester United players
The Independent are reporting that Erik ten Hag is keen to sell four big name Manchester United players this summer, with Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, Scott McTominay, and Fred all on the chopping block.
With the exception of McTominay who came through the academy, all of those players arrived for massive price tags but have failed to live up to expectations. Their future at Old Trafford is now in jeopardy as a result.
West Ham are interested in Maguire, although there is little chance that they will meet United's rumoured £50million asking price. Sancho might be of interest to Spurs, while Fulham are said to be keen on signing Fred. In saying that, there is no doubt that the club would take a sizeable loss in all three deals.
However, the wages of that trio could make shifting them on a difficult prospect. As for Scott McTominay, West Ham and Newcastle United are seen as two possible destinations.
Manchester United will have to work something out if they want to make more big additions to their squad over the remainder of the summer.
