Celtic centre-back Eoghan O'Connell has joined Cork City on loan until July 1st.

O'Connell, from Cork, is the cousin of recently retired Irish rugby international Paul O'Connell.

Eoghan made his debut for Celtic nearly two years ago against Ross County. Last year the 20-year-old was rewarded for his progress at the club by being given a two-year extension to his contract. He was also named Celtic's Academy Player of the Year.

O'Connell told Cork City's website of his delight to have made the move.

I’m delighted to be back in Cork and I’m really looking forward to getting started and playing.

My dad Damien and my brother Andy have both played for the club previously; Andy was here recently enough so I have been asking him about it and I would not be short on knowledge about the club!”

It’s about getting as many games as I can but the main objective is to help Cork City do as well as possible while I am here and try to win as many games as possible.
