A landslide victory saw Emmanuel Macron elected the new president of France on Sunday evening, with the former civil servant and investment banker centralist gaining over 66% of the vote to beat noted lunatic Marine Le Pen.
Just a day after his election to the presidency, a documentary realying the 39-year-old's campaign and victory aired on TF1. Emmanuel Macron, les coulisses d'une victoire (Emmanuel Macron, behind the scenes of a victory) did exactly what it said on the tin, depicting a more candid side to Macron behind closed doors.
One of the documentary's standout moments was a scene which showed Macron's appalled reaction while checking for score updates for his beloved L'OM. Stood in his campaign headquarters in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, Macron checks his phone and suddenly becomes extremely irate, much to the concern of his wife Brigitte:
Oh, merde! Deuxieme fois! Putain!
(Ah, shit! Second time! Fuck!)
Brigitte runs to the then-presidential nominee and asks, "Quoi donc?" ("What?").
A forlorn Macron points towards his phone and responds:
Monaco a battu encore Marseille...
(Monaco beat Marseille again...)
? E. Macron: "Oh merde. Deuxième fois, p****n"
? Brigitte : "Quoi donc ?!"
? E.M: "Monaco a encore battu l'OM"#LesCoulissesDuneVictoire pic.twitter.com/hWw6cDhjSn— TF1 Le JT (@TF1LeJT) May 8, 2017
Brigitte, seemingly completely unaffected by Marseille's 4-1 capitulation to their southern rivals at the Stade Veledrome, basically tells her husband to cop onto himself, put his phone away, and focus on his notes.
She was clearly oblivious to the fact that, not two months earlier, Marseille were swotted away 4-0 by the same opposition at Stade Louis II. Either that or she was simply steering her husband back into his lane as he embarked upon one of the most important political campaigns in modern history, but who's to say?
Unfortunately for Macron, Marseille's fortunes against Monaco have yet to improve. Back in March, they followed their 4-1 January defeat with a 4-3 loss in the French Cup - their third defeat to the men from Monte Carlo in 2017.
Fortunately for Macron, he's now French president. So whatever.
