You can really feel the love around Vicarage Road this season. Watford are flying high, currently sitting in seventh position in the table with manager Javi Gracia going down a storm ever since arriving midway through last season.

However, Gracia could be getting a helping hand from a certain club luminary, and not one we would have expected.

Speaking on talkSport, the club's chairman Scott Duxbery stated that legendary singer and former chairman Elton John has been heavily involved with the Hornets recruitment process on a daily basis and often gives recommendations on about which players the club should buy.

The six time Grammy Award winner is Watford's honorary life president. The veteran musician had been chairman and director during the club's rise from the fourth division to the top flight during the 1970s and 1980s.

Although the 71-year-old's involvement with the day to day running of the club ended in 2002, this hasn't stopped him from continuing the sacrifice for his beloved club and giving his opinion on who they should sign.

Duxbery told talkSport:

He is in constant communication, both with opinions of how the team has played and opinions on players, who we should be signing

He watches everything and he has a real knowledge of players and an absolute passion for the football club. It's not superficial. I will probably hear from him on a daily basis on one matter or another.

He recommends players that I have not heard of and I say I will pass it to my scouting department. They come back and say: Yeah, yeah, really good player, let's look at this. He absolutely has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the lower-division players, it is incredible.

It's nice to see that the Watford board are taking Elton's recommendations onboard and not going and breaking his heart by not taking his endorsement's into account.

Of course, Elton is still seen as a cult hero at Vicarage Road, and had a stand named after him in the ground in 2014.

While Elton is bringing the curtain down on his musical career in two years time, he certainly hasn't let the sun go down on his involvement with Watford just yet.
