The most charmless man ever to clear his throat in the Premier League is back in the news rhapsodising about his old teammates.
El Hadji Diouf, as talented a spitter as English football has ever seen, is currently running around a bit for Sabah in the Malaysian Premier League.
The former non-scoring striker with Liverpool, Bolton, Blackburn and Rangers (it was an act of gross social irresponsibility to bring that man to the old firm) has paid tribute to his old muccas, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
The latter has previously offended Diouf by making the factually correct assertion that he had 'one of the worst strike rates of any forward in Liverpool history' and revealing that he 'was always the last to be picked in training'.
Today in an interview with SoFoot.com, Diouf retaliated with a flattering description of Carragher's talents.
He was the biggest turkey I’ve seen on a pitch. I found him useless.
As for Gerrard, Diouf's attack on his old captain was somewhat less libellous than the one he offered following Gerrard's book. It was 'common knowledge', Dioufy said, that 'Gerrard never liked blacks'. Needless to say, this accusation was vehemently denied by Gerrard's people.
He leaves aside the claims of racial hostility this time around, focusing on Gerrard's other personal defects. And he wants him to know that Diouf can count on his adoring countrymen for support.
Steven Gerrard is a great club player but an egotist. He didn’t care about Liverpool winning – all that mattered for him was getting on the scoresheet.
I would offer him a stay in Senegal so that he sees how I am a king at home.
