According to BBC Derby Sport, the Championship side Derby County have rejected a £12 million pound bid for defender Eiran Cashin.

Reports had broke last night that Brighton had made a £12 million pound bid to bring the high-flying Derby man to the South, however, any plan to lure the defender now looks dead in the water, with someone at the top of the club reportedly confirming he is 'categorically' not up for sale.

Despite being born in Nottinghamshire, England, Cashin qualifies to represent Ireland through his grandmother who hails from County Leitrim.

The Derby defender has made full use of his familial links, representing both the Republic of Ireland at U18 and U21 level. The first of his five caps came when he made his international debut for the country's U18s in 2019 before he made four further appearances for the U21s in 2022.

While since earning his last cap in 2022 Cashin has been all silent on the international front, he has been ever-present at Derby, where the 23-year-old has already earned 125 caps.

Brighton have second attempt to sign Eiran Cashin refused

Monday's bid is the second time Brighton have tried to secure the young man's services, with Derby County refusing their attempts last year, and their higher price again this year.

Cashin has been going from strength to strength, getting named in last season's League One Team of the Year and continuing that good form in the Championship, captaining Derby for the first time at 22 and being ever-present as the first-choice centre-back throughout the season.

News of the bid had split Derby fans down the middle, with some in favour of what the high pay packet could do for the club, and others fearing his loss could all but condemn Derby back down to League One.

Having won just seven of their opening 27 games, Derby are currently sitting in 19th place on twenty-seven points, just one point off two of the three teams currently sitting in the relegation zone.

Cahsin has been at the club since he joined their youth ranks in 2009, and made his professional debut with the club in 2021.

Regardless of the refused bid, Brighton's interest will come as welcome news to both Cashin and those who would like to see him don the green of Ireland, with their bid proving that a typically shrewd and efficient club think sees top-flight potential in him.
