Every Manchester United fan's favourite businessman Ed Woordward has taken a break from securing a new official shoelace sponsor to comment on the financial health that the club is now in.

With Real Madrid securing the services of World Cup star James Rodriguez earlier in the week, Woodward was asked if he believed that United could compete in the market and pay a similar price for a player, his response was adamant:

It is in our capabilities. The club are not afraid of doing that – spending significant amounts of money in the transfer market. Whether it’s a record or not doesn’t really resonate with us, what resonates is a top, top elite player that the manager wants that is going to be a star for Manchester United. We are in a very strong financial position. We can make big signings.

Whether or not expressing how much cash you have to spend while supposedly negotiating over a number of transfer targets is a good idea or not remains to be seen.
