The Man Utd bus being bombarded with missiles as it approached Upton Park last night and the game being delayed as a result was discussed on Sky News Sunrise this morning. All and sundry were appalled by the scenes.
Eamonn Holmes - who never fails to trumpet his Man Utd fandom and did so throughout this morning's discussion - was presenting.
Holmes, ill-advisedly, compared last night's events in east London to Hillsborough.
This is going back to the 70s and to the 80s, the type of thing you were seeing that was bad about Hillsborough, for instance.
Criticism for Holmes came swiftly.
Bottles get thrown at a bus - compare it to Hillsborough. Idiotic on every conceivable level. https://t.co/TBQkoakD9l

Why does anyone compare anything to Hillsborough any more? Goes to show the ignorance is still there. Nice one @EamonnHolmes.

What Eamonn Holmes has demonstrated is that often these "TV presenters" are just that and are vacuous behind the facade

Don't tell me Eamonn Holmes doesn't keep up with the news he soddin' presents it. Inexcusable reference. #JFT96

Holmes' comments come just over two weeks after fans were cleared of any culpability regarding the death of 96 individuals at Hillsborough 27 years ago.
What happened last night was akin to hooliganism, what happened 27 years ago most certainly was not.
Here's Holmes on Sky News this morning.
