Eamon Dunphy Has Some Harsh Words For O'Neill Over 'Insulting' Grealish Treatment

Given that we now know Martin O'Neill has tried and failed to call Jack Grealish up to the Ireland squad, it's unlikely Eamon Dunphy's views will have changed.

Speaking on RTÉ's Game On last night, Dunphy was in stellar form, criticising the Ireland manager for his treatment of the Aston Villa youngster. The pundit was asked whether O'Neill was doing everything he could to convince Grealish to declare for Ireland and Dunphy's response was not exactly positive.

He’s actually insulting him. I mean, he said the Scotland match would be too big for him. And two days later, Grealish was the most important figure in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Ireland assistant manager, Roy Keane, didn't escape Dunphy's finger pointing either.

Keane also had a go at his father, at Jack Grealish’s father, saying he was high maintenance and all of that stuff. It’s hugely irresponsible.

Dunphy's primary point seemed to be that the Ireland manager was not giving enough credence to the fact that Grealish could be the future of Irish football and he was scathing in his summary of how O'Neill could be jeopardising Ireland's chances in the near future.

To be blathering on at press conferences about the players, when he’s not present, shows such disrespect, to any player, never one who’s been a seminal figure in a Wembley FA Cup semi-final, and in a relegation fight; to be doing that, and saying the Scotland game would be too big for him?

It’s daft, it’s wrong, it’s a disservice to Irish football, and it’s absolutely outrageous.

The RTÉ pundit doesn't think that we'll see Grealish in an Ireland senior squad as a result of O'Neill's management and the fact that there was a rather farcical situation at the press conference today may give some credence to Dunphy's comments.
