Eamon Dunphy and John Giles were both named as 'legends of sport' at the Irish Sports Awards night a fortnight ago.
Eamon's love of John Delaney shone through, and was discussed on our daily sports podcast The Racket today:
Dunphy, in particular, was in high spirits when he and John Giles got up on stage to accept the accolade.
Down through the years, while highlighting the shortcomings of footballers, Dunphy has often cited 'The Tony McCoys, the Ruby Walshs, the Henry Shefflins, the Brian O'Driscolls' as examples of laudable sports stars.
At the awards night, Dunphy was bashful to now be described as 'legend' alongside the likes of McCoy and Weld.
First of all, I'd like to apologise to all the legends like AP McCoy, Ruby Walsh, Dermot Weld - wow. What am I doing here?
John Giles also had a few words to say about Ireland's chances at Euro 2016. They were a little bit too sedate to be of interest.
Back to Dunphy.
These words really should be on one of those inspirational memes with a golden sunset in the background.
Last word: love sport; love the people who do it... great, like the guys I've mentioned always; love John Delaney.
Beautiful.
Forward to 15:20 below to watch Dunphy and Giles.
