Manchester United are reportedly set to sign Netherlands striker Wout Weghorst on loan until the end of the season.

After missing out on Cody Gakpo to rivals Liverpool, Wout Weghorst is set to be the striker Erik Ten Hag brings to the club.

The Netherlands striker showed what he's capable of in the World Cup, with two goals in their quarter final defeat to Argentina.

Weghorst is currently playing in Turkey with Besiktas, where he has scored eight goals in 17 appearances this season.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at the the club from Burnley, where he moved from in the summer after their relegation to the championship.

Is Weghorst The Right Signing For Manchester United?

There's no doubt that the priority right now for Manchester United is a striker. Since Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from the club, they have been linked to several players.

Joao Félix has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United among those interested, while Memphis Depay also linked back with a move to Old Trafford.

However, after a summer of expensive signings, it seems like they have gone for a cheaper, immediate option in Weghorst.

While he proved to be a useful option off the bench in Qatar, Manchester United fans will be fearing their club has short memories.

Weghorst time in Burnley was one to forget last season. After they spent £12 million to bring him from Wolfsburg to Turf Moor, he scored just two goals in 20 games.

In years gone by, Manchester United have been prone to panic signings. With the form of Marcus Rashford at the moment, goals will come, but they still need a proven out and out striker.

If Weghorst is the short term answer however, remains to be seen.
