Dublin Derby Rescheduled For Bizarre Time Thanks In Part To Coldplay Concert

Thursday was a huge night for Shamrock Rovers as they beat Celje of Slovenia to guarantee a place in the Conference League group stages.

The win guarantees Rovers at least €3m and next week, they're heading to Greece to play PAOK.

However, another thing the result guarantees is fixture headaches for the League of Ireland.

The league today confirmed that the Dublin Derby between Rovers and arch-rivals Bohemians has been rescheduled from Friday, August 30th  to the following Sunday.

It's been given a very unusual kickoff  of 11:30am at Dalymount Park thanks to the fact that Coldplay are playing four dates at Croke Park that week, including the day of the re-fixed game.

The fixture creates the very surreal prospect of a clash with 12pm mass with neighbouring St Peter's Church in Phibsborough.

Tensions between the pair are always high, but this clash will have extra spice after Rovers appealed the FAI’s decision to reject their protest over the eligibility of Bohemians’ Dawson Devoy in their FAI Cup clash last month. Bohs won that game thanks to a Dayle Rooney penalty.

Rovers felt Devoy should have served been suspended for the FAI Cup clash as he was carrying a one game suspension from the EFL Trophy. Abottstown declared that the ban applied to the league as the EFL Trophy has no equivalent here.

Thanks to that 1-0 victory over the Hoops at Dalymount, Bohs will travel to face Kerry FC in the third round this Sunday.

Stephen Bradley delighted with Rovers win

The Rovers manager was delighted with his side's performance last night and claimed the opposition had disrespected them

We've been trying to get Graham and Jack (Byrne) up to speed for us. They're slowly getting there but I did say to Graham during the week that he'd win us the game tonight. Because you know, you put him in front of goal from 25 yards with that left foot, then it's danger.

They didn't respect us all night. They didn't respect us pre-game. You could see their press was leaving big spaces. And Graham exploited them.

It'll be interesting to see PAOK fall into the same trap next week.
