Drogheda United were relegated to the First Division last night, an experience presumably not made any more bearable by the thought that Dundalk were lifting the Premier Division trophy aloft at the same time.
Limerick's 3-2 win in the Showgrounds was enough to lift them above Drogheda on the final day of the season. Drogheda, for their part, played well but lost 5-3 in Tallaght, Danny North's hat-trick condemning them to the First Division.
In the wake of the defeat, their captain Mick Daly laid into his teammates, accusing them of lacking the fight and passion to keep the team in the top division.
He said that after the 6-0 loss to Dundalk, eight players didn't 'bother to show up' at training.
He said that the team were a shambles and got exactly what they deserved.
Thank you for all the support, absolutely heart broken tonight but facts be known we were the worst team in the league by a mile.

I love this club and loved playing for them. To see them go down fucking breaks my heart. Time to get things in order now and rebuild

The day after we lost 6-0 to Dundalk 8 lads just didn't bother to show up training.. That was the day we got relegated. No fight no passion

As captain il take my share of the blame. I captained a club to be relegated, will live with me forever. It's gonna be a long off season
