There are many times that a reporter asks the following question during his career - "Is this real life". Blackrock and Trinity educated dubliner Rory Carroll has surely asked himself this quite often. Rory is now serving as the Latin America correspondent of the Guardian, having previously been kidnapped in his role as Iraq correspondent.
He has had some unique experiences over the years, along with the kidnapping he has reported on the inner workings at the Vatican, been present at a Miss Fat Gay Venezuela and today he is responsible for putting some meat on the bones of a dog bites superstar story.
It seems Diego Maradona (now commonly referred to as an older Lionel Messi) came a cropper while playing with his wrinkly chinese dog and has come of the worse, needing surgery on his upper lip after getting too close to the canine.
You can follow the story here and there is a press conference due to happen later.
But be assured, Rory will continue bringing us the best that Latin America has to offer us in the true spirit of his old Alma mater - "Fides et Robur"
