A heartfelt Dirk Kuyt video message to Steven Gerrard after the latter's retirement from football will endear former Reds player Kuyt to Liverpool fans even more.
Kuyt was a striker before he moved to the Reds but in his time at Anfield was more of a utility player, popping up with the odd vital goal. A record of one in four isn't too shabby in that respect but Liverpool fans always loved how he would end each game having given absolutely everything for the side.
Kuyt now plays at Feyenoord who were in Man Untied's group for the Europa League. In September they managed to beat United 1-0 at home but then lost 4-0 to them in November at Old Trafford. And Kuyt touched on the reception he received from the United fans in order to outline his love for the Liverpool people.
It was a special, heartfelt message from the Dutchman. You can watch the video below.
You know I played for six years for Liverpool, it was the best time of my life. And last week we played against Manchester United...one thing happened during the game.
The 60,000 supporters shouted against me and they shouted, 'You Scouse bastard!' Normally when the rivals shout at you it's not the best thing that can happen to you, but actually it made me proud. I felt proud to be an adopted Scouser.
Because for me, Scousers are good people. Hard-working people, committed people, people who never give up.
Steve, I want to send you the message that you should never give up. Keep fighting, stay positive and you know whatever happens your friends and I will be very proud of you. I wish you all the best.
