Diego Godin spitting incident: the Uruguayan was involved in an unseemly incident with Alaves' Deyverson in Atletico Madrid's away game on Saturday.
There have been some fairly disgraceful sights in football over the years. Eric Cantona's kung-fu kick springs to mind. Luis Suarez's various nibbles on opponents. Frank Rijkaard spitting in Rudi Voller's pristine barnet.
And it is the latter which seems to have been the inspiration for Diego Godin and Deyverson of Atletico Madrid and Alaves respectively in their La Liga match on Saturday night.
It was a fairly nondescript clash as far as the scoreboard was concerned, finishing scoreless. But that didn't stop Godin and Deyverson landing a couple of absolutely stinking gobs on each other in the last minute of the game.
There were 93 minutes on the clock when Godin caught Deyverson with his elbow, and the latter didn't take too kindly to it, firing a gargantuan gob at Godin that actually hung off the Uruguayan's chin. Naturally, Godin summoned his inner Rijkaard when he realised what had occurred.
His was a slightly less monstrous effort, but found its target nonetheless.
