According to French newspaper L'Equipe, Didier Drogba has retired from football and will take up a role as part of Guus Hiddink's Chelsea backroom team.
Citing 'Canadian sources', L'Equipe say Drogba contacted the Montreal Impact hierarchy to inform them of his decision.
Drogba only joined the MLS side in June of last year.
Given how well he was playing in the MLS, it is slightly surprising that he has chosen to call time on his career. In 14 games for Montreal, Drogba scored 12 goals.
Perhaps he simply took mercy on MLS defences. Or, more likely, Roman Abramovich has offered him a wad of cash to be the man who can unite and lead the Chelsea dressing room.
In his two stints at Chelsea, Drogba won four Premier League titles and a Champions League along with four FA Cups and three League Cups.
