Nothing is official at the moment, but it only seems like a matter of time until Frank Lampard is appointed as Chelsea manager.
The London club were always going to be attracted by the proposition of bringing back their star midfielder, even if his managerial C.V. is still fairly bare. With their upcoming transfer ban, now does seem like the right time to take a flyer on a young manager such as Lampard.
One person who is seemingly willing this union into existence is Didier Drogba. The former Ivory Coast standout has been telling everyone that is willing to listen that Lampard is going back to Chelsea.
First up was his pre-match interview at the recent Soccer Aid game at Stamford Bridge, responding like this when asked if his former teammate would be the next Blues boss.
This makes even more sense now.
According to the Times Drogba has been offered a coaching role by Frank Lampard, who is bringing Jody Morris and Shay Given with him. https://t.co/mv2yYApgpI— Will (@willreyner) June 15, 2019
Nice and subtle Didier.
He wasn't finished there. Drogba did an Instagram live earlier today, where he was answering questions from fans. When one asked who the next Chelsea manager would be, he left little doubt.

It has been speculated that Drogba may be handed a coaching role at the club should Lampard get the job, which may explain his confidence on the subject. Although to be fair, this is the worst kept secret in football at the moment.
The move does make sense, even if it does come loaded with risk. Lampard has shown an ability to work with young players at Derby, something he will be required to do over the next 12 months at Chelsea given their transfer ban. He is also adored by the club's supporters.
His lack of managerial experience is a concern however, and he must be given time at the club by Abramovich if things are rough early on.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out if he does get the job. At least Didier is confident he will anyway...
