It's not too often you see a swap deal come off so we'll maintain some healthy scepticism but L'Equipe are reporting that Angel Di Maria is on his way to PSG and Man United will be getting a right back in the process.
The French publication are reporting that Gregory Van Der Wiel will be offered up to Louis Van Gaal in the hope of mitigating some of the £60 million fee that United are hoping to claw back on the Argentine winger.
Di Maria had agreed a deal with the French champions last season before Man United managed to turn his head. Fast forward one season, however, and the former Real Madrid man is once again heading toward the exit door. Despite some flashes of ability, Di Maria has often been on the outside looking in at Old Trafford.
Much like the now departed Radamel Falcao, Di Maria has failed to live up to lofty expectations. At 27 he should be at the peak of his powers and it is possible that United would make back a sizeable chunk of their large outlay. Whether that includes Van Der Wiel or not is far from certain.
Van Gaal may be happy to welcome another Dutch international to Old Trafford but he has been something of a bit part player in the French capital. If he was brought in as part of a deal involving Di Maria then you'd have to think the Man United owners would expect at least £50 million to sweeten the deal sufficiently.
