Derry City have rebuffed a 'derisory offer' for 18 year old defender Patrick McClean from Championship side Bristol City. McClean, who is the younger brother of Ireland international James, was on trial with Bristol and it seems manager Steve Cotterill was suitably impressed to make an offer for the Derry youngster.
However, the Brandywell side have made it clear that Bristol's original offer will not be accepted. Speaking to the Londonderry Sentinel, a club spokesperson has confirmed that the offer was far from acceptable, something which McClean very much understood.
Bristol City have made an offer for Patrick McClean and that offer is considered a derisory offer, one which we dismissed immediately. Obviously we’ve informed Patrick but, to be fair, he appears to be keen to remain at Derry City to further his development.
Although a move to England is always a milestone in an Irish player's career, it seems the younger McClean is more than willing to wait for his big move. Something which perhaps cannot be said for his brother who is still the subject of much speculation concerning a move to the MLS.
