Derry City Set To Rename Stadium After Late Captain Ryan McBride

Derry City football club are set to rename their stadium after the late Derry City captain Ryan McBride.

McBride died suddenly in his home in March of last year at the age of 27, just a day after captaining the Candystripes to a 4-0 win over Drogheda United, and councillors have now voted to rechristen the ground the 'Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium'.

A public consultation that took place on the name change which started in April and closed on the 1st of July, and an overwhelming majority voted to rename the ground, with 71% in favour. The council received 6,500 valid votes during the process.

The proposal must now be go to the Full Council where it will be discussed at the end of the month.
