Declan Devine Calls For Realistic Expectations For LOI Managers

His team are seated at the top of the Premier Division table, but Declan Devine has taken issue with matters elsewhere in the LOI this week.

The Bohemians manager spoke to the media this week in the aftermath of his side's comprehensive 5-0 win over Cork City on Monday - a defeat which ultimately led to the resignation of City manager Colin Healy on Thursday morning.

Cork have managed only two wins from their opening 13 games - but Healy was not the first coach to announce his resignation this week. On Tuesday, St. Patrick's Athletic manager Tim Clancy was revealed to have stepped away at Richmond Park, after a promising start descended into a muddled run of form for the Saints.

Though neither team - and, in particular, Cork - have been in stellar form recently, the departures of Clancy and Healy were both surprises to the LOI public, and Devine believes that the pressure on managers needs to be reduced - and more realistic expectations need to be placed on them.

LOI: Declan Devine thinks Clancy and Healy hard done by at Pat's and Cork

The LOI Premier Division could not have gone much better so far for Declan Devine and Bohemians. Despite a few blips along the way, they sit four points clear at the top of the table after 13 games, with a massive Dublin derby against Shamrock Rovers to come on Friday evening, live on RTÉ.

Nonetheless, after his side's crushing 5-0 defeat of Cork City ultimately proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Colin Healy, Devine lamented the issues with regards to expectations on League of Ireland managers.

Speaking this week, Divine said of Healy and Tim Clancy (who departs St. Pat's):

First and foremast, they're two fantastic managers, who have done extremely well at their clubs.

I've said this before, sometimes clubs need to be careful what they wish for. These guys are spilling their blood and spending their life away from their family to work so hard. It's a difficult job.

Expectations in the league are ridiculous at the minute. Cork have come up from the First Division which is not easy it's extremely harsh on Colin.

For Tim...he got into Europe and two weeks ago they were second in the table - that can happen. I'm very disappointed clubs have come to this decison but, at the same time, we all come into these jobs knowing the madness of management.

I think the clubs can get behind their managers a bit more and give them a bit of time. I'm really surprised and I hope the two guys push on to another job in the near future.

Ironically, Cork will face Pat's on Friday night, with Cork's new sporting director Liam Buckley immediately stepping in to the role of interim boss at Turners Cross.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Tallaght Stadium for the top-of-the-table clash between Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians. Rovers v Bohs gets underway at 7:45pm, with the game live on RTÉ 2.
