'Davy Keogh' Sums Up The Irish Fans' Reaction To Danish FA's Ticket Warning

He is one of Ireland's best-traveled and most widely known football supporters.

For decades, Davy Keogh has been saying hello with his deceptively simple flag. Wherever the Irish national team go, he follows.

Needless to say, Keogh will be in Copenhagen on Saturday night. Speaking on Drivetime with Mary Wilson this evening, Keogh addressed what is becoming a worrying issue for some of the travelling Irish.

With a relatively paltry number of tickets being made available for the away fans in Copenhagen's Parken Stadium, many Irish fans chose to buy up tickets being made available in the home section of the ground.

However, amid warnings from the Danish FA, it was suggested that no traveling fans would be admitted into the home section - ticket, or no ticket.

Well, according to Davy Keogh, there is no need whatsoever to be worried:

We've heard all this before. We were in Wales and we heard you won't get in the ground ... and there was about 500 fans in the [home] section in Wales.

Now, the Welsh FA were never pulled up over that.

Citing the general amicability of the Irish fan-base as a reason why no great issue ought to be made of any incidental segregation between fans, Keogh is certain no trouble would come of any mingling:

We were in Wales, we've been in Scotland...we've been [in many] countries in the wrong section and there has never been any trouble.

Ireland fans have been voted the best fans in the world. ... There is not going to be an ounce of trouble in that ground on Saturday and that's a fact!

Despite his assurances, Keogh did stress that although any fans sat within the home supporters should feel free to cheer an Ireland goal, they should refrain from wearing too much green and white.

Regardless of Davy's confidence, Peter Schmeichel had a very different view when he was speaking in Dublin ahead of Saturday night's game.

The former Man Utd man recalled the visit of Poland during the qualification campaign, and said that Irish fans with Danish tickets will be turned away due to the strict policy in action.

They're gonna be very strict on Saturday, they are not going to let any Irish fans in with Danish tickets, and they're not gonna let people stand up. I don't know why they are so fucked about that. When we played Poland a lot of the Polish fans had Danish tickets and a lot of them got refused entry and there was a little bit of trouble, but not a lot. I can't imagine any kind of trouble with Irish fans. I just can't.

I don't think it will be bad because Danish fans, traditionally, they don't make any trouble, they're just there for the party. But I think the atmosphere is gonna be really good.

If you are one of the Irish fans hoping to get in to the match with a home ticket on Saturday, brush up on your Danish phrases and maybe leave the inflatable hammer back in the hotel room.
