The Guardian's resident cartoonist David Squires has proven his ability to hit the nail on the head anytime he is asked to depict a farcical situation in football time and time again, and yet another example has popped up today, this time tackling the fury and outrage over footballers that don't wear a poppy.
James McClean takes the brunt of it, but 'poppy madness' appeared to reach it's peak this week when the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street appeared on TV wearing a poppy.
Hard to get your head around the mentality that thinks there's a need to pin a poppy on Cookie Monster. pic.twitter.com/b67hemyrG6

So today for The Guardian, Squires took aim that the outrage by giving his view, and there's not much to say other than here it is.
The highlight for us?
Treason! You rotten Linekerist traitor!
So, so good.
He took on 'Remembrance Day' last year of course, but with Brexit fresh in the minds and the recent attack on Gary Lineker, we needed an update version.
Well done that man, we look forward to next year's David Squires poppy outrage comic.
