David Moyes Has Finally Had A Say (Of Sorts) About His Man United Sacking

David Moyes has emerged somewhat back into the world of football today with a column in today's Sunday Times. In it Moyes addresses some aspects of his firing from Man United and interestingly contends that days of long term planning at United are numbered:

They now appreciate, I am sure, that things are changing at their club and it could well be that gone are the days of long-term planning. They were fully aware of the task I had. It was unfortunate I wasn’t given more time to succeed.

Moyes also felt he retained the support of Alex Ferguson throughout his time at Old Trafford and felt he was starting to modernise United:

When I succeeded him he advised me of some changes that had to be made. I took his advice on board and started to implement the necessary changes and modernise certain aspects. I also became aware of other changes that had to be made and put plans in place. It was never going to all come together in a few weeks, or months.

While Moyes can't really be accused of self pity here, he surely realises that to implement a long term plan at a club of United's size, some relative short term success is needed.

His point about long term planning may have more substance to it though with hired gun Louis Van Gaal now about to take the reins at United.
