The shoe was on the other foot for David Meyler this summer as his father John Meyler took over the Cork hurling team. Speaking at at the EA SPORTS FIFA 19 Ratings Awards, the Reading midfielder explained how his father supports him in his football career and how it was a completely different experience supporting Cork with his father in the hotseat:

This year as my Da was a manager it was a lot different. I went to the first Championship game in the Munster round robin system in Pairc Ui Chaoimh against Clare and I've never swore, sweated and cursed so much in my life. You're catching every ball, you're pucking every ball because I'm desperate to see him do well.

Whilst on the subject of GAA, Meyler stated that he would love to return to Ireland to play hurling, claiming that he was ten times the hurler than he was a footballer:

I would love to play hurling. I'm an alright footballer but I was ten times the hurler than I was the footballer. But obviously with careers, football was the road to go down, football was the one I chose.

I had a tough call to make at seventeen, Damien Richardson was the manager of Cork City, and I had a minor semi-final and I chose to play the last 12 minutes of a game against Sunderland which probably made my decision. The rest is history. I would love to return, it would take a lot of work to get to the level of your Cannings your Horgans.

(At club level) I'd like to think I could move I could strike off the left. My buddies from home that I grew up with that were very successful with the Blackrock team still say I can't puck off me right, so I might have to spend a few hours in the handball alley.

On the subject of his FIFA 19 rating Meyler did not complain about his rating of 69, arguing that not all players can be Cristiano Ronaldo:

Everyone always asks me about the rating. Your rating is not far off what you should be. Let's not start thinking we're all Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, let's hold up a bit.

David Meyler was speaking at the EA SPORTS FIFA 19 Ratings Awards. EA SPORTS FIFA 19 is out tomorrow 28th September on all platforms, to get your copy, head to EA Sports.
