Irish fans love a bit of endeavour. Factor in a bit of audacious skill while your at it, and all the better.
As a replacement for Glenn Whelan tonight, David Meyler had an admittedly low bar - if you believe some RTÉ pundits - to reach.
However, with Ireland looking momentarily vulnerable to a Serbian break, the Cork man managed to bring the Aviva stadium to its feet.

Chasing after Filip Kostic, Meyler managed to reach the ball, retain it, and then nutmeg the Serbian as he proceeded to clear the danger.
Needless to say, a standing ovation was forthcoming, nay necessary.
