David McGoldrick may not score all that many goals, but he brings so much to a team. His link up play is exceptional, as is his work rate.
At 31-years old he is in the best form of his career. He can certainly be categorised as a late bloomer, especially when you consider he struggled to find a club for much of the summer in 2018.
The player's move to Sheffield United has been a massive success and he has established himself as a key player in Chris Wilder's system. Much of the good work he does can go unnoticed, but there was no ignoring his contribution this afternoon.
Sheffield United secured a 2-0 home victory over Aston Villa, with John Fleck scoring both of the goals. McGoldrick played a decisive result role in the second strike.
He reacted to a deflected pass from his teammate, spotting the run of John Fleck in the process. The Irish striker would go on to pull off a stunning chipped pass over his own shoulder. Take a look at this.

While McGoldrick has yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League this season, he has been in fantastic form. Sheffield United are the surprise package of the division and much of that is down to his work up top.
With Ireland facing into a huge Euro 2020 playoff early next year Mick McCarthy will certainly be pleased with what he is seeing from his first choice striker. If he can add a few goals to his game it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say McGoldrick would be amongst the most effective strikers in the division.
