Earlier this week the above picture of David Luiz being baptised in his teammate Maxwell's swimming pool was doing the rounds. Accompanying the picture in many outlets were quotes which suggested that Luiz was a virgin. The 28 year old did say that he and his girlfriend had 'chosen to wait' until they were married.
A lot of people ran with that and the reaction was rather strong. However, Luiz has now spoken to the BBC and clarified the comments.
My religion, my baptism, I'm very happy. People are saying things everywhere about whether I'm a virgin or not. I'm not a virgin.
Some people in the press don't respect people in life. I can put my head on my pillow and sleep great because I respect everyone.
Whatever you may think about his staunchly religious views, you have to agree with Luiz's summation of the respect aspect here. Even if the chap was a virgin, is it really that much of a big deal for the world to be talking about it?
