The ongoing saga surrounding Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea continues with reports suggesting Italian giants Juventus are preparing to land the Spaniard on a free transfer once his contract runs out.
De Gea's current deal expires next summer although the club do have the option of a year extension. Talks have been ongoing but a resolution has not yet been found. Per The Telegraph, Man United did meet with Jorge Mendes last month to discuss a new deal.
However, the Times have reported that Man United boss Jose Mourinho is concerned that the club could lose De Gea on a free transfer to Juventus. The Italian club have an extremely well-run recruitment wing and demonstrated the required patience when they waited for Paul Pogba's contract to expire before signing him in 2012.
A source at the club told the paper: “De Gea played against his future club on Tuesday. Juve are an expert in intelligent deals. If United don’t sell him in the summer, Juventus will wait until the end of his contract.”
David De Gea had been heavily linked to Real Madrid in recent years but that avenue was closed off when they signed Thibaut Courtois. Juventus do currently have goalkeepers Wojciech Szczęsny and Mattia Perin while Italian newspaper Calciomercato reported that there was interest but that Juventus did not expect to be able to complete a deal.
