The World Cup happens in the summer. There's nothing in the rules of football or the laws of any country that dictate that but it's just the way it is. That's the way it's been and that's the way it should be.
However, you can scrap everything you thought you knew about everything because FIFA have confirmed that the 2022 World Cup will tear up tradition (and the football calendar) and take place in the middle of winter.
After months and years of debate, today we have got final confirmation of the dates of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. And sure enough, it's going to be a winter World Cup.
Beginning on November 21st and finishing on December 18th, the tournament will be just 28 days long and it's a travesty.
But FIFA obviously only have player welfare in their mind so we should really all congratulate them for doing something wonderful and not making a balls of the world's game.
More to follow.
