Ireland striker Daryl Murphy looks set for yet another season in the Championship after being told he is free to leave Newcastle United by manager Rafa Benitez.
The Irish Sun reports today that Nottingham Forest are favourites to capture the Waterford man for around £2 million but his former club Sunderland are also reportedly interested in his services.
Murphy contributed six goals to Newcastle's Championship winning campaign and Benitez was delighted with how he conducted himself last year.
I was really pleased with his contribution last season, not just because he played games and scored goals but he led by example, both in the dressing room and training. He was a positive influence on the team.
We have been chatting at training in recent days and he knows that if a club comes in, he will go on a permanent transfer, once the deal is best for him and us
Although he is 34 now, Forest manager Mark Warburton will be hoping that his positive influence and Championship experience can turn them from relegation battlers to promotion contenders for the upcoming season.
