Dundalk have thrummed with infectious energy for weeks, and have made the Irish sporting public sit up and take notice. One of the main men responsible for this is Daryl Horgan, the fleet-footed winger who is reminding us that there may well be life after Damien Duff after all.
But it's not just the wider Irish sporting public that have been drawn to Horgan's performances. Martin O'Neill has been watching, and has included him in the provisional squad for the enormous World Cup in Vienna on November 12th.
He has also attracted interest from clubs across the water, and the latest to be linked with a swoop for the Dundalk winger are Newcastle United.
There are lines in both the Sun and the Daily Mail claiming that Rafa Benitez sent scouts to Tallaght to watch Horgan against Zenit St Petersburg. Horgan was customarily impressive in that game, although Robbie Benson took care of the goalscoring. It was Horgan, however, who equalised for the Lilywhites in Russia earlier this week.
Benitez is overseeing somewhat of a revolution at Newcastle, and has signed a couple of Irish players to help make it happen, namely Daryl Murphy and Ciaran Clark.
Horgan has had three trials in English football in the past: Torquay, Burnley and Peterborough have all had a long look at Horgan and decided not to pursue his signing any further.
Following his European performances along with international recognition, you'd imagine he won't be short of offers from English clubs over the next few months.
Of any potential moves, Newcastle would be very, very interesting.
