West Ham fans love Darren Randolph. Randolph loves West Ham fans (we assume), so why would that love affair broken up?
The Southern Daily Echo in Southampton are linking the Saints with the Irish international goalkeeper. The perennial back-up from Bray had just shed the tag of a back-up keeper in starting all of the Republic of Ireland games during Euro 2016.
With the departures of Maarten Stekelenburg and Kelvin Davis, Southampton are relying on just Fraser Forster in their squad to cover the nets. New Saints boss Claude Puel is thought to be an admirer of Randolph, and the Daily Echo are suggesting that they want the Irish keeper to be their back-up to England's back-up.
It's not a move that makes a whole lot of sense for me. Sure, it would be of great interest to Southampton - but Forster seems established as the first choice on the south coast. Randolph is battling Adrian to be the Hammers no. one; and unless the money is huge for Randolph - I don't see why Randolph should reduce himself from a competition (even if he does seem to be behind Adrian) to a definite back-up.
We'll see where that goes.
