The last time Sunderland won a Premier League game in August or September, Darren Bent scored the winner - it was against Manchester City.
Just as surprising as the fact that Sunderland continue to limp along with Premier League status as well preserved as their trophy cabinet is the news that Darren Bent is still scoring goals at a decent level: he is playing for Derby County, and he was crucial in their 3-2 win away to Wolves this afternoon. He scored Derby's second goal at Molineux, and what a goal it was.
Have a look:
What a strike! Derby ultimately won the game 3-2, but it was a victory with a worry for Ireland: right-back Cyrus Christie left injured just three minutes into the second-half with what looked worryingly like a broken ankle.
It means he will almost certainly miss the trip to Austria next weekend, and with the Irish squad beset by injuries already, we had better cross our fingers that Seamus Coleman comes through today intact.
