We are just over a week away from the end of the transfer window and the ultimate destination of Ireland defender Dara O'Shea remains unclear.

O'Shea was a regular in defence for Burnley in last season's Premier League and, though the club were ultimately relegated from the top flight, he was praised by manager Vincent Kompany and others for his efforts.

His performances have evidently made their mark, with several top clubs reportedly fighting it out for the 25-year-old's signature.

Celtic had initially been heavily linked with adding O'Shea to their Irish contingent, with Adam Idah hinting that he would like to see his international teammate join him in Glasgow.

However, the Celtic links have cooled in recent weeks, with Brentford appearing to take the lead in the race for O'Shea's signature. Earlier this week, the Bees' Premier League rivals Wolves were said to have entered the race.

If the latest reports are to be believed, it may not be Nathan Collins at Brentford or Matt Doherty at Wolves who Dara O'Shea ends up playing alongside this season, but fellow Irishman Sammie Szmodics.

TalkSPORT's Alex Crook reported on Friday morning that Ipswich are now in the "box seat" to sign Dara O'Shea, as they play in the Premier League for the first time since 2002.

Crook suggests that Wolves had previously been in pole position, but that there exists a "gap in valuation" between them and Burnley with regard to O'Shea.

Ipswich were promoted to the Premier League as champions of the second division last season, with Fermanagh man Kieran McKenna leading the club to back-to-back promotions.

Should O'Shea secure a move to Portman Road, he would join fellow Irishmen Marcus Harness and Jack Taylor at the club, as well as recently signed international striker Sammie Szmodics.

After a lengthy transfer saga, Szmodics signed for the newly-promoted side from Blackburn on the eve of the Premier League season, and fans will be hoping he can replicate his immense goalscoring form from the Championship last season.

It would be a massive boost to Ireland's prospects should Dara O'Shea secure a Premier League move. It certainly seems as though there is no shortage of options on the table.
